Maryborough

Dunolly

As many as 60,000 people flocked to Dunolly after the discovery of rich gold deposits. Most of these of course were diggers intent on striking it rich with a lucky find. Broadway, Dunolly’s main street, stretched for several kilometres and was lined on both sides with timber and canvas structures. Take a stroll down the main street and take the history.

Maryborough

Maryborough has a splendid cluster of heritage buildings centred around the Maryborough Civic Centre. The elegant architecture of The Court House, Town Hall, Post Office and Old Fire Station display the fine workmanship of a bygone era. No visit is complete without experiencing the historic Maryborough Railway Station dating back to the 1890s.

Newstead

For ages before the coming of Major Mitchell the grassy river flats, dotted with giant Red Gums along this valley and now known as the Loddon River formed the homelands of the Jajawurrong people. The original Australians had no written language so we have only sketchy outlines from their folklore about their long occupation of this place.
