The Grampians is a series of rugged limestone mountain ranges and forests abundant with wildlife. It is one of VictoriaÃÂ¢ÃÂÃÂs most popular holiday destinations, the park is ideal for camping, climbing, scenic drives, bushwalks and studying nature. There is a labyrinth of walking trails that allow visitors to explore the natural wonders of cascading waterfalls, stunning floral displays and panoramic views.
Camping is a popular pastime for visitors and there are a variety of campgrounds located in beautiful forest surrounds. They all include basic facilities including; pit toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables. The sites have no power and most will accommodate six people and one vehicle. Staplyton, Plantation Smiths Mill, Borough Huts, Boreang, Jimmy Creek and Buandik campgrounds have some sites suitable for camper trailers or even caravans.
For those fit visitors to the Grampians, overnight hiking is extremely popular, challenging walks and remote campsites are all available to intrepid walkers. These trails are suitable to fit people, and they can involve crossing water, slippery trails, rock-hopping and scrambling. Nocturnal enthusiasts should carefully plan their route according to ability and ensure they have the correct equipment; topographic map, compass, GPS, and drinking water. The three top trails are: The Grampian Peaks, Major Mitchell Plateau and The Fortress and Mt. Thackeray.
Reeds Lookout give fantastic views of the Victoria Valley and to reach the summit all you have to do is follow the path around the gate and along the sealed road. The vista is simply stunning over Victoria Valley, Victoria Road, Serra Range, Lake Wartook and the Mt Difficult Range.
Bugiga Hiker Camp
Bugiga is a unique, distinctive and high-quality camp that is exclusive to the Grampians Peaks Trail, the lofty camp is located high in the Wonderland Range and the views of Mt. Rosea are stupendous. You need to book in advance all year round to secure accommodation, and there is no power on the site. 12 raised platforms can accommodate up to two people in a small tent. Also remember to bring plenty of water as there are limited supplies available. The Grampians National Park offers so much to everybody, the scenery and views are stupefying and although many of the trails and tracks are for experienced walkers, there are plenty of other pastimes to keep young and old happy.
