Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock achieved fame for the novel by Joan Lindsay , Picnic at Hanging Rock. Set in the early 1900'™s the story is all about a school'™s picnic field trip to the scenic volcanic formation called Hanging Rock.

Formed 6 million years ago Hanging Rock rises over 100 metres from the plain below. Hanging Rock is actually a small steep sided volcano and over the centuries the rock has been gradually eroded away by rainwater and the elements to form unusual formations. Including the Black Hole of Calcutta and the Cathedral.
