Many golfing experts consider Melbourne and its world famous sandbelt courses to be the best golfing in Australia and arguably the world. The Royal Melbourne Golf Club has three different courses that can be enjoyed by both professional players as well as amateurs.
The West Course is 18 holes and features bunkers, hills and strategic finishing holes to test the skills of even the most dedicated golfers. It is par 72 and quite long at 6077 meters.
The East Course is just a tad shorter at 6007 meters and is a Par 71. The greens a little smaller but no less beautiful. Seven of the holes are “home paddock” holes, and the last two are also used on the Composite Course.
The Composite Course is a monster 6401 meters designed by the legendary Dr Alister Mackenzie. It is a par 72 and this is the course that was born when The World Cup was held here on it in 1959. The Composite Course is made up of 12 holes from the West Course and 6 from the East to create a unique course for the World Cup. The two courses sharing one in the Composite Course is a fantastic mix of Augusta national style and Scottish Links style. Many international publications rank the Composite Course among the best in the world.
